LEGO 42213 Ford Bronco Review: A Tough Technic Build?

LEGO 42213 Ford Bronco Review: A Tough Technic Build?

As a longtime fan and owner of a Ford Bronco, I was thrilled when LEGO announced they were releasing a Technic version. It felt like the perfect set for me, combining two of my passions into one build. Let's see if the model lives up to the legendary name.

At-a-Glance: LEGO 42213 Ford Bronco SUV

  • Set Number: 42213
  • Theme: LEGO Technic
  • Piece Count: 943
  • Release Date: August 1, 2025
  • Retail Price: $64.99 USD

Unboxing and First Impressions

Right from the unboxing, the set feels like it offers great value for its $64.99 price tag. Opening the box reveals 7 numbered bags, plus an extra bag for the large tires, which promised quite a few hours of entertainment.

As someone fairly new to Technic, laying out all 943 pieces felt a little intimidating—there are so many small, specialized parts! My strategy was to organize the contents of each bag before starting, which made the whole process much more manageable.

The Build Experience: Bag-by-Bag

Key Feature: The V6 Engine

The build kicks off with a fantastic and self-contained module: the V6 engine. It was a lot of fun to assemble, and there's a real sense of mechanical satisfaction in twisting an axle and watching the yellow cylinders fire in sequence. At this early stage, I was perplexed as to how this complex little engine would integrate into the final model, which made me eager to keep building.

The Chassis and Body

With the engine complete, the build moves on to the main chassis. This is where, as a Technic newcomer, I hit my first real challenge. So many of the connections require a lot of things to align perfectly, and I found my finger strength wasn't quite up to the task at first.

But as the build went on, my fingers got stronger and I got much quicker at snapping the pins and beams together. Once I got the hang of it, the building pace picked up speed and the whole process became much more enjoyable.

The most satisfying part was seeing the mechanical frame transform into the iconic Bronco. There was a real "wow" moment as I put in the seats and watched the dashboard go into place. It started to look just like my own truck sitting in the driveway.

The Final Model & Key Features

This was a great model to build. I had a ton of fun, and it looks fantastic on my LEGO shelf. The clever engineering continued right to the end. The suspension gives the model a fantastic ability to compress, just like the real thing. But the cleverest system is the steering. While the steering wheel in the cockpit is just for show, the vehicle is actually steered by turning the spare tire on the back. It’s a really fun and unique way to drive the Bronco around.

Final Verdict

It all came together in a great way and it really feels like it represents a Bronco. It looks great as a display model, but it’s sturdy enough that you can play with it like a toy if you desire.

Pros:

  • An authentic and fantastic-looking display model of the Ford Bronco.
  • The build is a fun, engaging, and challenging experience.
  • Clever play features, especially the spare-tire steering system.

Cons:

  • The 9+ age rating feels a bit low; the build requires significant finger strength and might be frustrating for younger builders.

Ultimately, this is a set I would highly recommend. Any Ford enthusiast, or a truck enthusiast in general, should pick this set up and give it a build. My daughter is 8 years old, and I honestly do not think she would have been able to complete this build without a lot of help. This is a great set for a teen or adult looking for a satisfying Technic experience.
